Life In The Fast Lane

There are days at SBC when I have the luxury of taking things easy. I have time for rounds of edits and idea meetings with my team of creatives to cultivate the perfect strategy for a client. Other days — not so much. I can have a to-do list of the top 10 things I need to finish that particular day, but by 11 a.m., I’m hit with a tidal wave of various things that give me a headache and makes my energy wane. First thing first: coffee. Once I’ve chugged an acceptable amount of caffeine, I can take a deep breath and re-prioritize my day. I work around meetings and get the things dropped on my desk done first so I can finish my to-do list from the beginning of the day. Easy right? Nope.
The downside of being efficient is a lack of thought, creativity and quality in my work. I stress myself out over getting things back in time that sometimes I don’t put the right amount of effort into it, so it turns out I'm just wasting time. I get frustrated when my work is given back to me, but if I took the time to make it the best it could be to begin with, I wouldn’t get it back. Clients don’t want to see a project they can tell wasn’t thoroughly put together, so why would I turn something like that in? Time management issues are my walls to crumble here in the studio.
