As much as we'd love it if you could, you can’t just snap your fingers and have a design ready in a few short hours. Every graphic design project has its own process and requirements, and on top of that, there’s all of the creative thinking behind it. Occasionally, some designs can be whipped up in one day, while others take several days -- some even weeks. It all depends on the project and what content, images and tools are needed to complete it. Before you hit the ground running, here are four things that can affect the time needed to create a design:
Oh, content. Oftentimes, clients will ask for a design before having an idea of what their content will look like. The problem with that is that design is centered on content. No content? No design. Having all content written and edited before the design process begins will help designers effectively execute their projects. Providing your designer with at least 80 percent of the content helps make the process move smoothly.
Knowing all of the file formats and sizes needed ahead of time is really beneficial. Ask yourself: does the document need to be editable? Well, something like this can fluctuate a design. Before designers start designing, provide them with inspiration! Maybe the client has a particular brand that they are fond of? Share all of that information with your designer. Knowing the desired route of a project really helps your designer develop ideas, creating a more harmonious partnership between you and your team. Find yourself hitting a road block? Changes happen (and they happen often). It all depends on what you’re looking for. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and send suggested edits to your team. Designers are always looking for what looks best and for clients to be pleased with the final product. Changes can delay the process, but if they’re constructive, then it’s all for the best!
